A Speedy Charitable Donation

Fleet Live kicked off proceedings at the NEC, Birmingham on the 8th and 9th October with a host of exhibitors and thousands of visitors in attendance to discuss the future of fleet. Leading fleet services group, VMS Fleet Management attended the exhibition with a test of skill and control for all visitors, offering up a remote-control driving challenge to seek out the best driver across the two-day event.

Many top directors, managers and decision-makers took to the controls and revved the engine of the remote controlled lorry, all aiming to keep their vehicle on the track and complete the route around the obstacles within the best time to win a weekend in a BMW X5.

After two days of stiff competition, and incredible times on the leaderboard, the Managing Director of leading vehicle camera technology company, Camera Telematics Mark Stamper sped his way to victory, steaming past 53 other competitors, with a time of 0.17 seconds.

Whilst a prize of a weekend in a BMW X5 would have been greatly enjoyed, Mark decided that his prize would be better spent being donated to charity close to Mark’s heart, Naomi House. Naomi House is a hospice supporting children and young adults from Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight and beyond.

Mark, originally from Basingstoke, now residing in Ireland, used to do much fundraising for the hospice, and couldn’t resist another chance to help them with the crucial emotional, spiritual and developmental care they provide to families with children with the most complex medical needs and life-limiting conditions.

The Naomi House team work tirelessly to understand and support each family in order to provide them with the best care and rest bite possible so that they can have a peaceful and dignified end, surrounded by family members in a loving environment.

The standard cost to keep the hospice a float comes in at £8.5 million per year. Just 9% of that income comes from the government and statutory sources. The remaining must be funded by the hospice itself. Which is why kind donations and contributions such as this are so important.

For Naomi House, just £10 buys a variety of crafts for a child to make a special gift. £21 funds 1 hour of nursing care for a child and £30 funds a play therapy session for a child. So a donation of £150 was warmly received and will go a long way in helping children, young people and their families.

This small act of kindness and generosity given by Camera Telematics and VMS Fleet Management will greatly improve the lives of the individuals in the care of Naomi House Hospice.

Mark Stamper, Managing Director of Camera Telematics said.
“As a younger man, I was involved in fundraising for Naomi House through various different means and it means a lot to me that my fun win at Fleet Live with VMS can go towards this fantastic hospice. Whilst I might not live nearby anymore, it’s still important to me to do what I can with the help of companies like VMS.”

“It was great to see so many people engaging with our stand at Fleet Live 2018 and we had some amazing scores on the leaderboard for those who had a try at our challenge. The winner of the prize, Mark decided to make a contribution to charity instead of borrowing a BMW X5 from us, and we thought this was an amazing idea – a lovely contribution from him to show his dedication to this amazing charity.

“We look forward to taking our remote control driving challenge out to exhibitions and potentially pop-ups in the future, so keep a look out of us if you want to try your hand at navigating our track!”
